What is CBD?

What is CBD?

CBD or Cannabidiol is one of over 80 chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are agonists that bind to special receptors on your cells, called cannabinoid receptors and can have a range of effects to the functioning and maintenance of your mind & body.

WHAT IS HEMP?

Hemp, or rather Cannabis Sativa, is a plant species of which there are many varieties. All varieties look very similar to the untrained eye and contain many of the same compounds and attributes. Different types of Cannabis Sativa L are usually called by different names depending on their properties and usage.

THE ACTIVE COMPOUND?

The active compound in Cannabis which creates the “High” is called Tetrahydrocannabinol or more commonly known as THC. Not all Cannabis strains contain THC, at least not in significantly high enough amounts to cause any psychoactive effect. Cannabis strains which do contain THC are usually referred to as “Marijuana”.

The other main protagonist in the Cannabis trio is Hemp. Hemp is a type of Cannabis which is farmed mainly for its seeds and fibre. Hemp does not contain THC or has so little that regardless of the amount of consumption it will not produce a “High”. Hemp fibre is the most diverse of all plant fibres bar none. It has been estimated that there are over 25,000 uses for hemp; the following are just a few: Paper, Rope, Plastic, Textiles, Animal Feed and Bedding, Cosmetics, Nutraceuticals, Fuel, Construction Materials and Medicine.

IS IT LEGAL?

Depending on jurisdiction and the part of the plant used. Hemp seed and fibre is legal in the majority of the world, but due to its ambiguous legal nature, it has not developed to anywhere near its full potential. Cannabis Sativa L is legal in many countries around the globe but regulations and restrictions vary greatly from one country to another. Marijuana (THC) is legal in a few parts of the world but again different countries apply different regulations and restrictions.
